The Northern California Solar Energy Association (NorCal Solar) is a nonprofit, member-supported association for ongoing education on the many aspects of solar energy.

Since 1974, NorCal Solar has inspired tens of thousands of people to decrease dependence on traditional fuels by promoting:

  • passive design
  • building integrated solar
  • photovoltaics (PV)
  • solar cooking
  • solar hot water
  • other renewable energy strategies
  • energy efficiency

Throughout its history, NorCal Solar has served as the leading clearinghouse of unbiased information for solar professionals and newcomers, the general public, policymakers, grassroots organizations, advocacy groups, and the media in northern California.

NorCal Solar is a chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) a national organization dedicated to advancing the use of solar and other renewable energy sources for the benefit of the global environment.


NorCal Solar is a nonprofit, member-supported association for ongoing education on the many aspects of solar energy. Your financial support enables us to stay involved in our many activities. Your help will enable us to strengthen solar awareness toward an environmentally sustainable society.  Members also receive discounted admission to our regular meetings such as our speaker series events and annual membership meeting.


Hold Monthly Events: networking, workshops and solar/green tours

Maintain an Educational Web Site: providing a calendar of events, solar news & educational resources.

Develop Education Kits & Member Updates: release eNews & bulletins.

Publish the Solar Energy Resource Guide: presenting basics on technology, financing and resources.

Engage and Inform the Public:  provide networking opportunities, workshops and seminars.

Partner with Other Organizations: partner with progressive organizations promoting sustainability. Current partners include the Bay Area Climate CollaborativeSolar Sonoma County and Sustainable Communities.
