As a teenager, Tor was fascinated by turning sunlight into free electricity and made plans to become a solar engineer until taking a freshman film course at Middlebury College. After many years working as a professional film and TV writer for Stargate SG-1, Dharma and Greg and unproduced movies for major studios, Tor became re-dedicated to promoting solar energy in 2008 after seeing a double feature of Who Killed the Electric Car? and An Inconvenient Truth. He then decided to take several solar PV courses at the Solar Living Institute and Solar Energy International and began working full time as a solar marketing and social media consultant to top solar brands such as SunPower, SolarCity, and Panasonic, and lead generation site SolarPowerRocks.com
In 2015, Tor joined Impress Labs as Chief Marketing Officer of Solar where he worked developing strategies for more leading brands, such as NEXTracker, Inovateus Solar, Enphase, and many others. Impress Labs later became Kiterocket after a merger, and he now serves in a part time role as Senior Strategy Advisor.
Tor is also a leading solar marketing and advocacy voice with over 15,500 “@SolarFred” Twitter followers and over two million page views of his solar marketing and advocacy blogs on Renewable Energy World, Solar Marketing Think Tank, and most recently, the U.S. edition of PV Magazine. He’s also the host of the annual solar “Tweetups” at Intersolar North America and Solar Power International. Outside of work, Tor is an avid urban hiker, biker, and sleeper.
