Part-time Job with NorCal Solar – Membership Database Manager (could expand to other duties depending on skill set)

NorCal Solar seeks help with our operations. The most critical function is managing our Membership Database but this could expand to other tasks depending on candidates’ skills. Here is where we start:

  • Part-time contract position (NOT employee position with benefits) – 3-4 hours/week
  • Partial Task List:
    • Enter new and renewing members into database – Salesforce
    • Enter other organizational contacts into Salesforce
    • Send renewal notices to members, both electronically and in print
    • Communicate with appropriate members of NorCal Solar board of directors
    • Send welcome notes to new/renewing members
    • List business members on NorCal Solar website
    • Coordinate with the American Solar Energy Society on joint memberships
  • Work does not necessarily have to be done during the business day
  • Work to be done at candidate’s home or office (we have no physical office)

Skills needed:

  • Experience with Salesforce – NOT entry level
  • Experience with Vertical Response – NOT entry level
  • Excellent communication skills; excellent English speaker
  • Friendly and easy to work with
  • Professional
  • Self-motivated
  • Computer-savvy
  • Attention to detail, especially for correct spelling of names and email addresses

Plusses:

  • Understanding both the possibilities and the limitations of a small nonprofit organization
  • Interest in solar and renewable energy
  • The ideal candidate would also have some or all of the following:
  • organizing skills: manage our quarterly events – take care of logistical details, interface with host site, etc.
  • ability to assemble a newsletter from items submitted by board members (proficiency in Vertical Response, and excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and editing skills required)
  • website management skills (Joomla or Wordpress)
  • ability to use EventBrite
  • ability to purchase and manage supplies of membership brochures and other organization items
  • social media skills
  • excellent “people skills” – to develop relationships with our members, sponsors, partners, and other supporters
  • ability to manage annual board elections (prepare and send out ballots, mostly electronically)
  • proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • ability to identify and recruit volunteers and/or interns; manage them
  • potentially manage an online store and fulfillment

The volunteer members of our board of directors handle many of these details and functions now, but we’d like to think and act more strategically, expand our programs, and pay a professional to manage the details.  The right candidate will be able to increase our income (from more consistent communication with members, sponsors, etc and our expanded programs) and possibly work up to a ½-time position or more.

Pay will be commensurate with experience. We want to be fair in what we pay, within our budget constraints.
